TOMORO KINOSHITA

Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your journey as a digital artist?

I am Tomoro Kinoshita, a visual artist from Japan.

Until 2019, I primarily focused on analog mediums, creating works with ballpoint pens, colored pencils, and paints. However, I was drawn to the limitless possibilities of digital creation and decided to transition. Initially, I focused on illustration, but I found it challenging to stand out in such a vast and competitive field. This led me to explore 3DCG.

With the rapid advancements in VR devices and CG software, I began creating and showcasing works utilizing 3DCG in VR and AR formats. Then, when the NFT market experienced explosive growth in 2021, I decided to join the movement. NFTs opened up international opportunities for me, allowing my work to gain global exposure and recognition.

What are your inspirations as a digital artist, and how have your origins influenced your work?

One of the most important aspects of my work is the presence of living creatures in every artwork or video I create.

I have loved insects since childhood and often browse insect and animal encyclopedias during the creative process, seeking inspiration from their vibrant colors and unique forms. Additionally, I draw significant inspiration from the video games I played growing up, including those on the PS2, Xbox, Game Boy, and PSP. Revisiting old strategy guides, storylines, and in-game items has become an integral part of my creative process.

Reflecting on my inspirations, I have realized that creating art allows me to reconnect with cherished childhood memories. Through my work, I aim to preserve and carry forward the beautiful sceneries and emotions I experienced, keeping their essence alive for the future.

  • How do you think artificial intelligence can influence the world of art and are you as an artist exploring this field, if so how and if not why?

Although AI-generated art is still developing, I believe we’ll witness even more remarkable works in the future. Personally, I find it challenging to engage with AI-generated art because I often struggle to discern a clear flow of context or perspective within these pieces.

For this reason, I view AI as a supplementary tool rather than a replacement for the core essence of my work. For example, I might reinterpret AI-generated content in my style, incorporating it into my creations, or use AI for technical aspects of exhibitions. By doing so, I ensure that AI serves to enhance rather than overshadow my artistic vision.

  • How do you think NFTs have changed the digital art market?

Digital art has existed since the advent of computers, but for a long time, it was difficult to buy, sell, or monetize such works—they were often limited to being shared or displayed. The emergence of NFTs changed that, establishing a viable market for digital art and providing a platform to reward the efforts of countless digital artists.

This shift has been monumental. NFT art has spotlighted young and emerging artists, fostering a positive movement within the art community. I am among those who have benefited from this transformation, finding new opportunities and recognition through NFTs.
